Stanley’s Film Club presents Funny Face | Stanley’s Valentine Special

Sat 18 Feb

Take your loved one to Paris this Valentine’s weekend! For this year’s Valentine Special we will transform Stanley Halls into 1950s Paris – chic cafes, bohemian bars and dancing included – to present a screening of Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn’s Funny Face (1957).

Dick Avery (Astaire) is a photographer who is dispatched by his boss Maggie Prescott to find a “new face” for an NYC fashion magazine. Dick soon discovers Jo (Hepburn), an owlish Greenwich Village bookstore employee who has no time for the shallow fashion world. Jo is soon seduced by the idea of a trip to Paris, where Avery sets about transforming her into the world’s biggest supermodel. With style and sexiness to boot, Funny Face is a true musical homage to the fashion world.

The film will be followed by live music from the Tootsie Rollers – a retro band with a unique sound that fuses old-school classics with contemporary hits. Whether you are a free thinker, a bohemian artist, a philosopher or a fashion model, it is time to embrace Parisian cafe culture and head to Stanley Halls for a night to remember. Get your dancing shoes on and join us for an evening full of energy, glamour and style.
