Stroke your Beard presents Penniless Cove & Ali Warren

Fri 30 Nov

This is a night that will prove to be something quite special.

Set in the incredible surroundings of Stanley Halls, Ali Warren and Penniless Cove will perform, film and record new material in collaboration with London based promoters Stroke Your Beard.  Both musicians are very well established on the London circuit and between them have played countless high profile shows and festivals in the UK and abroad, released a multitude of singles and received praise from the likes of BBC Radio 6, Tom Robinson and Amazing Radio to name but a few. Stanley Halls is a truly unique space in South London and will provide a wonderful backdrop for a performance from two richly talented musicians.

Support will come from brilliant local musician ACWA.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for £5:

**PENNILESS COVE**

“Her mischievous lyrics and raw, powerful voice draw you in.” Tom Robinson BBC Radio 6 Music

“A unique sound, I found myself humming her hooks through the day.” Clive Anderson, BBC Radio 4 Music

Penniless Cove is Welsh soulful singer song-writer Phoebe Osborne and musical collaborators. Her music takes you on a journey through every day awkwardness, disappointment and surrealist dreams-hoping that it connects with people who are as indecisive and curious as she is. Weaving observational humour and visual metaphor with raw vocals and booming piano melodies, she takes inspiration from Ibeyi, Joanna Newsome, Lianne Le Havas & Ivor Cutler, to bring you her own brand of gin soaked tunes. Following her live performance on Radio 4’s ‘Loose Ends’ earlier this year, she will be releasing new music throughout 2019 and performing with her band at venues across UK and Europe.

**ALI WARREN**

A man whose voice rarely descends from the clouds.” Tom Robinsons ‘Fresh On The Net’

‘Like listening to a reflective Radiohead after an autumn in a cabin listening to early Floyd cassettes as Jeff Buckley drops by for tea.” Larmer Tree festival

The imminent release of Ali Warren’s debut album, Rhyme and Reason, is just the latest chapter in a long list of musical escapades. Following the release of his debut EP ‘Good Morning I’ve Taken My Medicine’ Somerset born Ali moved to London and gained critical acclaim for singles ‘What We Say’ and ‘Where You Wanted’. Both were picked up by Tom Robinson and received local and national airplay via BBC Radio 6. After three European tours including festivals in Poland and The Czech Republic and two stints at the acclaimed Bush Hall with his previous band, Ali is now working with guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Michael Appleby. Together they’re created a truly remarkable blend of folk and post-rock to giving a sublte, otherworldly and decisive backdrop to Ali’s ever present voice and lyrical prowess.
